Yorkshire Day is nearly upon us once again as the 1st of August marks that time of the year to celebrate all things Yorkshire. We’ve compiled all the best ways to celebrate the day including some special (and tasty) events dedicated purely to the celebration of our county.
A trip to the seaside
With the sudden heat wave sweeping the nation you could make a trip to the many beaches dotted around Yorkshire as it is home to some of the North’s most stunning shores. Robin Hood’s Bay and Whitby are just a couple of our favourites, or you could check out the England Coast Path which opens in Yorkshire this summer. Embark on a Yorkshire Dales walk
Celebrate Yorkshire day with a walk in the dales and take in the breathtaking views. The walk from Embsay Reservoir is particular highlight of the Dales during summer time as the heather is in full bloom. Alternatively you could enjoy the newly expanded Yorkshire Dales with a walk around the north Howgill Fells or the area around Barbon. Explore Yorkshire’s wildlife
If you fancy a bit more of an adventurous Yorkshire day then explore some of Yorkshire’s famous wildlife. From August whales begin to make their journey down the Yorkshire coast so you might even be lucky enough to spot some of the majestic creatures by taking a boat trip from Whitby Harbour. Wykeham Forest is also home to some of our rarest wild life like the honey buzzard and turtle dove. You might even be lucky enough to spot a few puffins over at Bempton Cliffs, despite most of them departing in July, even if you have missed them, the views are spectacular. Have a toast to Yorkshire or celebrate with fine food.
Yorkshire is bursting with some of the best pubs in the country, so it would almost be rude not to drop in to order a pint and make a toast to Yorkshire day, if the country pub is your idea of a perfect day out, then take advantage of the many fine pubs we have across the county and enjoy a pint of local brew and some top class food. Spend Yorkshire Day with your dog!
Dogs certainly are a mans best friend so why not celebrate this years Yorkshire Day with them by visiting some of the best dog friendly locations the area has to offer. Forge Dam is a blissfully scenic spot for you and your pooch to mooch around the wooded grounds or stop off for a coffee in the café. Ryedale Folk Museum is a bit more of an alternative day out for you and your dog as it offers a unique glimpse into rural life from the Iron Age to the 1950’s.
