Robert Newton solo exhibition at Lime Tree Gallery
Lime Tree Gallery is very proud to host its third solo exhibition by the sought after landscape painter, Robert Newton which takes place until September 9.
Born in 1964, Robert studied Fine Art at Sunderland University and is currently living and working in his native Northumberland.
Perhaps the secret behind Robert’s enduring popularity, is his ability to produce work which is traditional looking yet utterly contemporary in execution, believes Lime Tree Gallery.

A closer examination reveals bold, modern, brushwork, and a vigorous and immediate relationship with his subject matter, an altogether more questioning style which lives well in the 21st century.
Never afraid to use colour, his work explores both composition and expression, yet always maintains his painterly approach. Robert sees his work as ‘painting nature’ not only in context but as a vehicle to express the medium, its plasticity and how it conveys an illusion of reality.
Robert said of his work: “I describe my work as ‘Painting Nature’, as a direct response to my immediate surroundings, exploring colour, composition and expression yet maintaining the very traditions of British painting. Making sketches as well my own visual notes I paint intuitively and expressively with bold sweeping brushstrokes that sum up whole passages of the landscape that is before me. Painting on location and in the studio, I often rework paintings intuitively to produce a completed work.”
Robert’s work is said to have become very collectable. He has had a number of solo exhibitions in galleries throughout the UK since 2001, and shows at many prestigious art fairs, including 20:21 at the Royal College of Art.
