The fine dry weather and promise of some exciting racing attracted a crowd of thousands to the historic racecourse on Flagg Moor on Easter Tuesday.
The fine dry weather and promise of some exciting racing attracted a crowd of thousands to the historic racecourse on Flagg Moor on Easter Tuesday. The event began with two pony races, a new addition this year, won by Philip Armson on ‘Sandboro Dinky Toy’ and Thomas Greenwood on ‘Springs’. Then the historic High Peak Hunt members’ race started the seven race card at 1pm. Uniquely run over natural hunting country, including the famous limestone walls, the race commenced this year in the open country between the villages of Pomery and Flagg with just three marker flags to determine the course. Nerissa Brady from Taddington triumphed on ‘Tellitasitis’ after a fierce struggle with ‘Twist and Shout’ ridden by Buxton’s Mark Caley, last year’s winner. Sarah Wain was third on ‘Millennium Legacy’.
The remaining six races – over a defined course of nine steeplechase fences – saw success for Joe Proctor and Guy Brewer among others, and between races a parade of the High Peak Hounds was as popular as ever.
