Did you know that it’s only six floors to heaven? That’s what Rebekka O’Grady found out on a trip to Southport’s Vincent Hotel

Everyone enjoys time out. Whether it’s spending a few hours reading your favourite book or splashing the cash on some retail therapy, it’s pleasurable to have a bit of ‘me time’. Personally, I love being pampered, so I headed to The Vincent Hotel in Southport in search for a morning of bliss. Located on Lord Street, the coastal town’s Parisienne boulevard, over the years the Vincent has made a name for itself as a contemporary destination to wine, dine and stay. Its popularity has seen it this year open a sister venue in Liverpool city centre, the Vincent Cafe.

I’m booked in for the ‘Detox & Revive’ package, £140, a set of ESPA treatments that will take me on journey of relaxation for just under four hours. The elevator doors open on the sixth floor, next to the penthouse suite, and as I make my way into Vincent Beauty I am cheerfully greeted by the spa manager, Michelle. After a quick change into a fluffy gown, I am taken into the beautiful relaxation room for a pre-treatment consultation.

My first treatment, the Salt & Oil Scrub, leaves my skin feeling velvety smooth. Emmi, my therapist for the day, brushes my skin to smooth, brighten, tone and stimulate circulation, before smothering me in the divine Detoxifying Salt Scrub. After a quick shower, Emmi began my Full Body Aromatherapy Massage. The Detoxifying Body Oil, which helps to clarify and smooth skin, soon eradicates all tension and knots in my shoulders and back. The calming music and glimmering tea lights allow my mind to drift to exotic places, but I was soon brought back down to Earth with the news of lunch.

Comfortable in my chaise lounge, Michelle brings me a menu for The V Cafe & Sushi Bar. A cosmopolitan restaurant, it has received numerous accolades for its high standards of food, including two AA Rosettes. My choice, a chargrilled tuna steak, poached egg and new potato salad, is a tasty (and healthy) option in-keeping with my day of detox.

My final treatment was the 60 minute aromatherapy facial, which is totally customised to suit my skin’s individual needs. As I suffer with a mix of normal and dry skin, the products used in my facial are tailored to this - including the Hydrating Cleansing Milk and the Balancing Face Oil Treatment. My favourite product was the Refining Skin Polish, made from crushed seashells. The potent and therapeutic scents cast me back to the distant shores of relaxation, but soon my hour washed out to sea and reality beckoned...
