An irresistible mix of sunshine, G & Tea and thrilling on-pitch action proved a winning combination at the Wirral Ladies’ Cup
It was a fabulous day at Cheshire Polo Club on Longstone Lane, Tarporley, and made even more idyllic by the glorious sunshine that arrived just in time for The Wirral Ladies’ Cup.
Pearson Financial Management sponsored the day for their second year and spectators found a quintessentially British way to pass the afternoon at the polo by enjoying a G & Tea afternoon in a marquee dressed by Urban Heritage of Chester.
Pimms served by Piste of Tarporley greeted guests before they sat down to a delectable assortment of sweet and savoury treats prepared by Olive Tree Catering.
Then it was on to the main event as the highly contested Wirral Ladies’ Final between Chester Polo and White Hall Polo teams took place in front of a sun and fun seeking polo crowd.
Chester Polo beat White Hall Polo 6 goals to 1 in a fast-paced exciting match before Richard Thomas of Chester Polo was presented with the magnificent trophy.
Most Valuable Player was awarded to Shaun Brokensha of Chester Polo. The Best Playing Pony was Pimms, owned and ridden by Ben Malasomma of White Hall Polo, who received a beautiful rug sporting the Pearson logo.
After a prizegiving from the Pearson family, spectators barely had time to refill their glasses with something fizzy before The Jubilee Cup subsidiary final began. Another fast-paced match saw ponies thundering down the pitch as Stobart Polo battled it out with Apes Hill, winning 7 goals to 6. The Most Valuable Player was awarded to Katie Jenkinson of Stobart Polo. Best Playing Pony was Pinna, owned and ridden by Sarah Wiseman of Apes Hill. As always, both tournaments were great team efforts. Robin Sturch provided play by play commentating on the thrills of both matches for the assembled passionate polo spectators. w
