One of Porthleven’s acclaimed harbourside restaurants has once again secured a coveted place in the Michelin Guide – just as the team prepares to celebrate two decades since first opening its doors.

Chef-owner Jude Kereama and his team at Kota have shared their pride at the recognition, noting the significance of maintaining excellence in an ever‑evolving hospitality landscape.

“We’re incredibly proud that Kota has once again been recognised by the Michelin Guide, and as we head towards the 20th anniversary of opening our doors, it feels especially meaningful,” Kota shared in a post on Facebook.

“As the hospitality industry continues to evolve, adapting while staying true to who we are isn’t always easy – but it’s something we’re deeply proud of.

“This recognition is always a special one for our team – thank you to them, and to everyone who continues to support us.”

Michelin’s inspectors praised Kota for its “influences from cuisines around the world” and its position on the harbour.

An inspector said: “Occupying a prime spot on the harbourside, this simply styled former granary offers a menu of snacks and sharing plates that draws on influences from cuisines around the world, including subtle nods to Chef-Owner Jude Kereama’s Maori, Chinese and Malaysian heritage (the restaurant’s name means ‘shellfish’ in Maori).

“Cornish seafood does make its expected appearance, but there’s no shortage of meat and vegetable options too. Linger a little longer in the area by staying overnight in one of the bedrooms, one of which overlooks the harbour.”

The announcement sparked a wave of warm responses from diners who have experienced Kota’s hospitality first-hand. One guest recalled a particularly touching moment: “We took my mother there a few years ago, and Jude was kind enough to come over and say hello and welcome her, as we had told the staff it was her first visit. A lovely gesture - well done, you deserve this. We love your food.”

Another diner praised both the quality and value of their experience: “Ate at Kota 3 years ago. Really, the best four-course meal. The meal was really reasonable - £45.00.”
