The bedroom should be your sanctuary, a relaxing refuge after a busy day. So choosing the right colour scheme for it is vital if you wish to create the right mood for you.

Using blues in bedrooms is always very popular, especially soft and soothing shades like Farrow & Ball - Green Blue, Pavilion Blue and Lulworth Blue. These are perfect if you’re looking to create calming ambience.

If your bedroom is very dark, don’t fight nature by painting it in a light shade as it probably won’t work. By taking a counterintuitive approach and using a strong colour like Railings, Hague Blue or Pelt, you will be able to create a feeling of intimacy.

Another easy way to add a touch of personality to a bedroom is to use wallpaper. If you are unsure of using wallpaper create a feature wall behind the bed; or if you want to create a real impact, use on all four walls.

The pattern you decide on will depend on the feel that you want to create. For example a small and intricate design, such as Samphire, is ideal for a delicate and tranquil feel; whereas Bamboo will give an exotic and fun twist to the room. Using wallpaper with metallic detailing, like Shochikubai or Rosslyn, will create a sophisticated bedroom that exudes class.

Whatever you decide, the most important thing is to take the time to think about the look and feel that you want to achieve as really, it’s all about personal taste. Discover more decorating ideas at farrow-ball.com.
