A Dorset beach has been named among the best secret ones in the UK for a bit of peace and quiet according to a new list.

Man O'War beach was featured on the list from The Independent among eight others.

Discussing the creation of the list the publication wrote: "The summer months are the most attractive time to visit the British coastline, but also the busiest. With that in mind, we’ve found some UK beaches a little further off the beaten coast path."

The full list of beaches can be found on The Independent website here.

What was said about the Man O'War beach?

The Independent praised the Man O'War beach for its "stunning clear waters" and for its location on the Jurassic coast.

"Visitors can access the hidden beach by climbing down a flight of 150 hillside steps and following a steep path – which is 15 minutes from the nearest car park.

"Man O’War Beach features both sand and pebbles, while the cherry on the cake is its stunning clear waters for taking a dip."

In terms of recommendations of where to stay nearby, they said: "The King’s Arms in Dorchester features chic interior details and there’s private parking, a restaurant, 24-hour reception desk and an outdoor terrace too."

On the Visit Dorset website, it recommends using the Durdle Door Holiday Park to park your car and then walk down to the beach.

Decent footwear is "essential" due to the steep path that needs to be used to get down to the beach and there are no amenities available on the beach itself.

It adds: "Man O' War beach is accessed by a steep path and steps - not suitable for wheelchair users, mobility scooters or those who have mobility problems.

"It is a 15-minute walk from the car park to the viewpoint and steps down onto the beach."
