Believed to date back to the mid-16th century, this charming seven-bedroom home is one of the most iconic properties in Dunmow.

The interior is awash with period characteristics, including exposed rustic and embellished timbers, wall panelling and vintage fireplaces. Alongside this, it has been updated with contemporary styling to create an elegant home for present-day lifestyles.

On the ground floor, the entrance porch leads to a spacious sitting room, drawing room and formal dining room. To the rear of the house is a kitchen/breakfast room, which provides a social hub. Adjoining this is a family room with vaulted ceilings and French doors bringing the outside in.

Why we love it...

The idyllic, wildlife-friendly gardens are designed with parterres of clipped hedging, pergola walkways and areas to sit and enjoy the environment.

The history

The house is thought to be where Saint Anne Line once worked as a housekeeper in the 16th century. Born Alice Higham, she converted from Protestantism to Catholicism, something that was extremely dangerous at the time. As a result, Anne lost her dowry and her husband was banished to France where he then died.
