Tonbridge-based Lisa Rye, service manager for the charity Headway, on how a style session has given her new confidence.

Tell us a bit about you

I am the service manager for a charity called Headway, supporting those affected by an acquired brain injury. Our group is based in Tunbridge Wells although our services cover the whole West Kent area. I’ve worked there for more than 10 years and some of our fundraising events have seen me participate in many weird and wonderful activities, from sky diving to Dragon Boat racing.

When I’m not working I can often be found at the local sports centre taking part in one of the many exercise classes. I share my home with my two teenage daughters, who keep me on the fashion and make-up straight and narrow, my partner and his three children and our dog Rex. In my spare time I enjoy project managing the latest DIY adventure, including our recent plans to extend our property, and eating out in local pubs and restaurants.

What are you wearing?

I’ve been very fortunate to spend a day with local stylist Lynne Meek. As a treat to myself, Lynne sorted through my wardrobe and advised on style, shapes and colours most suitable to my lifestyle and skin tone.

After an afternoon shopping in the independent shops on the high street in Tunbridge Wells, I arrived home with a select collection of items fit to see me though the autumn/winter season. I’m wearing black suede boots from Daniel Footwear that give enough height to make me feel elegant yet are comfortable enough to wear all day. My jeans were a last-minute grab from Oasis in Hoopers, while trying on other items. These are a great fit, suit my shape and also match a number of items chosen as part of my new capsule wardrobe.

The top is made of silk and its ivory colour is apparently complimentary to my spring skin tone. This was bought in All Saints in Bluewater on a later occasion. The necklace was chosen by Lynne from Mint Velvet and once again is suitable for an evening out or as day wear. Mint Velvet also came up trumps with a leather-look jacket that is simple enough in style not to crowd my petite frame but yet provide me with a feeling of class and quality.

Following my day with Lynne I have really gained in confidence, shopping for items that enhance my new collection and are appropriate for my age.

Where do you live?

I was born and bought up in Tunbridge Wells and have lived in Tonbridge for the last 17 years following the birth of my two daughters. There is so much to see and do in the town, whatever your age or interests.

Where do you like to shop?

Following my day with Lynne Meek Styling I have been much more selective, first cruising the independent clothing stores in Tunbridge Wells and then perhaps a trip to Bluewater. Of course there is always London on our doorstep with never-ending choices of high street brands and independent stores and a delightful array of cocktail bars for a wind down!
