Traditional sounds of equatorial Africa complete the season of lunchtime concerts at the University of Kent in Canterbury on Wednesday 9 December, with a performance by Kasa? Masa?
London’s finest exponents of Suokous, a genre of dance music that originated from the Congo during the 1940s, will be adding their own unique twist to ancestral music which has been passed on from generation to generation, with driving percussion and singing, guitar and jazz saxophone.
Written in Swahili, Lingala and Kimongo, Kasa? Masa?’s music and lyrics reflect their journey from the rural to the urban and the cultural diversity of a region where more than 400 languages are spoken.
The lunchtime concerts, sponsored by Furley Page Solicitors, are held in the Colyer-Fergusson Hall and start at 1.10pm. Admission is free, with a suggested donation of £3.
