Clever planning transformed an extension into a stylish, practical kitchen where thoughtful design, statement finishes and entertaining come together.

When David and Diane set out to create a new kitchen as part of their home extension, they soon discovered that the best solution wasn't necessarily the one they had originally planned. Rethinking the layout created a beautifully considered kitchen, dining and entertaining space designed around the way they really live.

The original extension plans included a new kitchen alongside a bathroom and bedroom renovation. But looking more closely at the proposed layout revealed an opportunity to make much better use of the available space.

Working through the plans with Ivana Radosavljevic, experienced designer at Nolte Kitchens in Tunbridge Wells, the couple found a more efficient arrangement that reduced building costs while creating room for everything they wanted — including a generous kitchen and dining area, a dedicated entertaining space, guest cloakroom and utility room.

The design also needed to balance two very different priorities. Diane was focused on practicality, wanting a kitchen with genuine flow that would work effortlessly every day. David, meanwhile, was equally passionate about aesthetics, looking for a design that would make a statement.

The finished kitchen brings both together. Nolte's Feel furniture in Sahara creates a warm, understated backdrop, contrasted by a Manhattan Oak Graphite Silver island. Ascale Lucca Gold porcelain worktops continue up the wall into a floating shelf and full-height cladding, while the island is finished in Ascale Lorent porcelain with a waterfall end.

Bronze-toned handles complement the tap and highlight the natural veining within the porcelain surfaces, adding subtle detail throughout.

Functionality was just as carefully considered. A flush-mounted Bora hob with integrated ventilation sits at the heart of the kitchen, complemented by Siemens appliances including an integrated fridge freezer, single oven, combination oven with microwave and dishwasher. A Caple wine cooler within the island adds a finishing touch for entertaining.

A dedicated bar area completes the space, combining Manhattan Oak Graphite Silver base units with bronze-toned glass display cabinets, grey mirrored wall cladding and floating shelves.

The result is a kitchen that feels both beautiful and effortless - proving that rethinking a layout can unlock far more than simply extra space. For David and Diane, it has created a room that works beautifully for everyday life, while providing the perfect setting for entertaining.
