A Lancashire town has been named the most affordable seaside town to retire to.

Often, areas along the coast can be pricey when it comes to buying property but there are some more reasonable options available across the UK too.

The life insurance team at Compare the Market researched the 40 most populated coastal towns in England and Wales and ranked them by a range of factors including quality of life, costs of living, number of walking trails and the percentage of the population aged over 65.

Blackpool named most affordable seaside town to retire to in the UK

Compare the Market also ranked coastal towns according to average house prices and monthly cost of living to find the most affordable, revealing Blackpool as the winner.

Blackpool is said to offer the lowest cost of living per month based on one person and excluding rent.

The average price of a house in Blackpool is £164,884 and the cost of living is £431 per month for one person which is lower than any other town.
