This historic farmhouse in Croston has been lovingly renovated to create a modern family home.

The vendors say

When was the house built?

We believe the original farmhouse was built in the late 1700s and extended sometime in the 1800s, from then it has been added to in the 1970s and 80s. There are many original features including candle nook, a stone window, a meat safe, wooden beams and the interior walls in the old part of the house have curved edges. We have a copy of a will dated 1887 in which William Blackhurst left a farmhouse and land known as Back Lane Farm (formerly known as Whittles farm) to his children, together with other farms and land in Longton and Ulnes Walton.

Describe the garden

The garden consists of different areas but from the house we step out on to a large patio with plenty of space for seating and dining and includes a Koi pond which is surrounded by a low wall for seating. Arches lead to lawns and flower beds planted in cottage garden style with trees and shrubs including rowan, Amelanchier,Robinia, Viburnum Marisii,, Cornus Kousa, spruce, rhododendrums, hydrangeas and even a fig tree. Behind the summer house at the bottom of the garden is a seating area leading to a rockery and waterfall and shade loving plants. Back towards the house is a ached pathway covered with roses and clematis and edged with hostas and views of the extensive flower beds.
