Jane and her husband Simon run Cottages in the Lakes, a collection of six beautifully-appointed self-catering homes around Coniston. Their two bedroomed Cragg Cottage at Torver was named self-catering accommodation of the year at this year’s Cumbria Tourism awards and Jane said: ‘We never expected to win. Just to be a finalist again was great.
Although the Cottages in the Lakes have attracted guests from across Europe and all over the UK, the majority travel from the North West and Jane added: ‘The pandemic changed people’s behaviour – not being able to travel abroad meant domestic holiday bookings were extremely high and I think that opened people's eyes to this country and what a beautiful and varied place it is.
‘For a lot of people in Lancashire that meant they rediscovered the Lake District and were reminded what a glorious place it is. If we can help more people reconnect with this area, then we’re happy.’
