Sunnyhurst Wood, Darwen

Perfect for families, Sunnyhurst Wood is an 85-acre wooded valley, complete with a visitor centre and cute wooden animal sculptures. ‘It’s such a lovely place to explore and escape in nature for a few hours,’ says @lancashire_sarah_b. Footpaths lead through the woods and up onto Darwen Moor towards Darwen Tower, should you feel the need to walk off what you’ve eaten.


Clitheroe Castle, Clitheroe

If you like to combine your picnic trips with a bit of history then picnicking in the grounds of Clitheroe Castle is one to add to your list. Jamestone Quarry, Haslingden

Otherwise known as Haslingden’s blue lagoon, Jamestone Quarry makes a dramatic picnic spot. Surrounded by moorland walks and rugged rock faces, it’s ideal for those who love a bit of wild beauty. ‘It’s a beautiful spot surrounded by moorland walks and there’s a cafe to stop and have a brew,’ says Tracy @wheretodayofficial.


Spring Wood, Whalley

Recommended by @daintyrosejewellery, Spring Wood offers a peaceful picnic setting. This lovely woodland has Ancient Semi-Natural Woodland status and once belonged to Whalley Abbey. Wander along various trails, find one of the picnic areas and enjoy a bite while listening to the birds sing.
