Norwich has an eclectic list of restaurants, including fantastic Italian joints serving some of the best pizza around. We have gathered five places in Norwich for pizza

1. Brick Pizza

39 Market Place

Tucked away next to the market in Norwich is Brick, the small, laid-back pizza restaurant combining simple flavours to create some of the best slices in the city. Pizzas are hand-stretched and cooked in the restaurant’s own wood-fired oven. Watch your pizza prepared and fired before your eyes.

What to order: house classics include the Napoli, topped with tomato, mozzarella, olives, capers and salty anchovies but we love the classic margherita and a side of dough balls dipped in garlic butter. Make sure to order a local beer or a bottle of wine to accompany and keep an eye out for the seasonal specials.

2. Donnelli’s Pizzeria

17 Timber Hill

Located on Norwich’s historical Timber Hill is Donnelli’s, the authentic Italian pizzeria serving freshly made Neapolitan-style pizzas including the Napoli, made to the original recipe that has been used since as early as the 18th century.

What to order: we love the sound of the Livorno with tomato sauce, extra virgin olive oil, mozzarella, spicy salami, egg and a sprinkling of parmigiano reggiano – make sure to order a side of dough balls with garlic butter and parmesan and a carafe of wine or one of the Italian beers.

3. Trattoria Rustica

20 Princes Street

You’d be forgiven for thinking you’d beeen displaced to a restaurant in an Italian village at Trattoria Rustica on Princes Street. Housed in a building from the 1500s, charmingly decorated and adorned with cultural ephemera, this authentic eatery serves an extensive menu of Italian cuisine including hand-made pizzas.

What to order: in classic Italian style, keep a glass of wine on the go while choosing between pizzas. Vegetarians may want to try a primavera topped with mozzarella, mushrooms, peppers, artichokes, aubergine, spinach, onions and tomato.

4. Amaretto Delicatessen

16 St Georges Street

Amaretto Delicatessen on the pretty St Georges Street sells lots of lunch time treats including fresh cakes, sandwiches, pastries and takeaway coffees too – usually making use of local artisans’ produce. Home made pizzas are also available in huge slices with toppings changing daily.

What to order: nothing beats grabbing a huge slice of pizza dripping with melted cheese and wandering through the ancient streets of Norwich or finding a spot on a bench with St Andrew’s hall and various flint-clad buildings as your backdrop.

5. Saporita

3A St Andrews Hill

Italian lunchtime perfection can be found at Saporita on St Andrews Hill with paninis, focaccia and (you guessed it) pizza slices, available loaded with fresh ingredients.

What to order: try a slice of diparma with tomato sauce, mozzarella and parma ham or cheese lovers should opt for a formaggi with tomato sauce, mozzarella, fontina and gorgonzola. Accompany your pizza with a can of San Pellegrino and you’ll feel like you’re walking the streets of Rome not Norwich.
