A Norfolk playwright who has written episodes of EastEnders has announced his latest theatre show.

James McDermott, who grew up in Holt and now lives in Norwich, graduated from the University of East Anglia in 2016, where he studied scriptwriting and performance.

Since then, the 30-year-old has received critical acclaim for plays such as Rubber Ring and Time and Tide, which are both LGBTQ+ stories set in the East of England.

He is also a part-time lecturer at UEA and he has written two episodes of EastEnders, but his links to the soap don't stop there.

His new play Jab runs at London's Finborough Theatre from February 20 to March 16 and it stars Kacey Ainsworth, who played Little Mo in the BBC soap.

She will perform opposite star of stage and screen Liam Tobin in the two-hander.

It is a comedy-drama about the impact of lockdown on a couple who have been together for 29 years, with Ainsworth playing an NHS worker. 

Mr McDermott said: "If I could go back and tell my teenage self that I would be writing for EastEnders and have one of its stars in my play I would be thrilled."
