Where and when Donna Chilcott married Don Morrison at St Mary‘s Church, Nether Stowey, near Bridgwater, on Saturday 30 April 2011 at 1pm before making their way to Taunton School for the wedding reception and evening celebrations.

About the dayAfter a spell of hot weather leading up to the wedding, the forecast on the day was for heavy storms. However, after a cloudy start, the sun shone and it was a lovely day. The ceremony was held at the village church in Nether Stowey, where I (Donna) grew up. My dad is no longer with us, so this job was left to my brother who appeared much more nervous than me. I entered to the sounds of The Flower Duet sung by some amazing singers, Con Spirito, and my oldest friend, her two daughters and my sister-in-law were bridesmaids. As it was a spring wedding I chose a lime and olive green theme, with some ivory and lemon. This seemed like a good idea at the time, but was very difficult to find the correct colour greens to match. After the ceremony we had photographs taken in some local gardens and then were driven, in a beautiful car, complete with a bottle of pink Champagne for us to drink on the way to our reception venue at Taunton School. While our guests waited for us to arrive, they were served drinks and canaps and after our arrival we enjoyed a three-course wedding breakfast served in the banqueting room, which looked especially beautiful as the sun shone through the stained-glass windows. In the evening we had a brilliant Neil Diamond tribute singer in the Old library, alternated with a disco. Guests were served bacon rolls, which seemed to be very popular, alongside the gorgeous wedding cake, consisting of three layers of different flavours. The evening sped by very quickly and we eventually left to spend the night at The Mount Somerset Hotel.

The honeymoon Three days after our wedding we went on our honeymoon to the Maldives. Stunning scenery, turquoise water, white sand and very friendly people, not to mention the wonderful food, it was a totally relaxing place and just what we needed after the last few weeks of wedding planning!

Most memorable momentSitting in the car on the way to Taunton School for our wedding reception, we sipped the Champagne, the car roof was down, the sun was shining and we had half an hour to ourselves to reflect on the wedding service before joining the guests for the rest of the celebrations.

Bride’s tipIt’s never too soon to start planning – don’t leave everything to the last moment and then panic! If you’re using disposable cameras make sure the guests know there’s a flash on them. Enjoy every moment as the day passes so quickly.
