Swapping flights for fish and chips – our pick of Yorkshire’s coastal holiday hotspots
Yorkshire tops the tree when it comes to staycation destinations, by which we mean staying in the UK for a break rather than your back garden.
A survey by holiday cottage folks Sykes showed the North York Moors and coast have seen a 145pc increase in bookings since last year - for obvious, pandemic-related, reasons.
But stats like this also reinforce the fact that there are some genuinely lovely places in Yorkshire (which we all knew), and that rental properties with a wow factor really will encourage people to swap flights for fish and chips and take a coastal break in the UK.
The stylish five-bedroom Coach House in Whitby is one to lure any lover not only of the Abbey and those cliff top views – but also the Dracula stories.
Its position is enviable – on the East Cliff near Whitby Abbey. To get to the property, you pass through the grounds of the Grade II listed Abbey House, which was originally a monastic building until it was granted to the Cholmley family in 1541. The Abbey of course was originally a 7th-century monastery and it went on to inspire Bram Stoker’s famous gothic novel ‘Dracula’.
