Beingbrough Hall is one of Yorkshire's best-loved heritage houses

Set in the Vale of York, the National Trust hall is one of the most remarkable baroque houses in England with richly carved and finished interiors.

Since the current hall was completed in 1716, heavily influenced by John Bourchier’s grand tour, it has been constantly re-invented including as a billet for aircrews during the Second World War.

After a closure of nearly two years, the historic rooms on the ground floor have been reopened following a £2.3 million infrastructure project. Visitors will once again be able to take in the dizzying Great Hall and the grand cantilevered staircase, noted for its outstanding workmanship, as well as uncover some of the stories of the people who have called the estate home over the centuries.

Alexa Buffey, Collections and House Manager says, 'We’re incredibly excited to welcome visitors back into the hall. The recent work has been crucial in preserving the building for future generations and National Trust supporters to enjoy. We can’t wait to show off its stunning interiors once more.'

Visitors are invited back once more to roam around the ground floor and imagine Beningbrough through the decades. With new LED lighting, the quality craftmanship of the building is easy to see. Through displays of key pieces of the collection, uncover the stories of the people who shaped Beningbrough and significant moments in history.

The late Ian Reddihough left a generous gift in his will to support the conservation and care of Beningbrough Hall, which has been invested by the National Trust in this vital work. Alongside the professionally designed lighting the hall has had a full re-wire. Other work included addressing decayed timbers, repairs to ceiling and staircase plasterwork, chimneys and stonework and improvements to environmental controls and heating. Final repairs on the north front steps are ongoing, expected to be finished by August.

Beningbrough is open daily, 10am – 5pm with the hall opening 11am – 4pm. The house is just off the A19, set in the formal gardens. Head to nationaltrust.org.uk/beningbrough to plan a visit.
