Muddy Puddles is in the running for a £250,000 prize
A company which started in Devon making outdoor clothes for children has been named one of 10 semi finalists in the Virgin Media Business Pitch to Rich competition - with a chance to win £250,000 prize to support a Get Outdoors movement across the UK.
Muddy Puddles started on a farm in Devon 20 years ago with a mum who was fed up of her children getting so grubby. She laid the smallest one down on the kitchen table, drew round him and made the first waterproof suit.
The business has come a long way since then with a team of eight and makes waterproofs, wellies and ski gear for children for 0-12 year olds. All storage and fulfilment is still based in Devon near Newton Abbot.
Natasha Ascott from Muddy Puddles says: “We are obsessed with one statistic - that children spend half as much time outdoors as they did 30 years ago. If we won this prize then we would launch a Get Outdoors Movement across the UK.
“The aim would be to get kids out in the fresh air and would include excellent guides to free outdoor days out, town or country, rain or shine and host monthly events, open to all, partnering with some of the 100s of small businesses across the UK who share our beliefs.
“Muddy Puddles is still run by a mum with three grubby kids and we are over the moon that such a small, homegrown business has reached such success and a semi-finalist nomination in this UK wide competition.”
