The wedding of Eniko Kertesz and Jonathan Thompstone

Jonathan and Eniko’s beautiful Derbyshire wedding took place at Tutbury followed by a reception at Osmaston Park
Jonathan Thompstone, son of Frank and Julia Thompstone of Burton, and Eniko Kertesz, daughter of Gyula and Monika Kertesz of Budapest, were married last summer in a ceremony organised by wedding planner Jacquie Andrassy. Jonathan is the managing director and owner of Anslow Enterprises and Eniko is joint owner and production managing director of Needwood Ice Cream at Anslow.
With the desire for a ‘completely unique’ wedding dress, Eniko commissioned a bespoke gown from couture designer Sarah Barrett of Lyn Ashworth bridal studios in Hanbury near Tutbury. Eniko took a pair of gold Dior heels she planned to wear on her wedding day to her initial appointment with Sarah. Together with Eniko’s ‘simple yet chic’ theme of pale pink and gold, they were the inspiration for her gold-hued dress. Sarah created a romantic design using luxurious silk fabric and lace, with an intricately detailed veil to match.
She also created the dresses for the three bridesmaids – Lilla, Lili and Lucia – and the dress of Eniko’s sister Tunde, who acted as Eniko’s main witness. The girls live all over the world and flew in just one week before the wedding.
The best man, Jonathan’s cousin Alistair Pollock, and Jonathan wore their own suits. Jonathan’s was enhanced by gold cuff links and a matching tie pin from Brigdens in Burton upon Trent.

Florist John Hawkridge of Leaves and Linens in Ilkley designed the flowers based on a simple colour scheme of pink and cream, with minimal green. The spherical bridal bouquet incorporated pale pink and cream roses and bridesmaids held round bouquets of gypsophila to complement their ivory gowns. The groomsmen wore simple gypsophila button holes.
The marriage ceremony took place at the Church of St Mary the Virgin in Tutbury and was conducted by the Reverend Ian Whitehead. The service was a blend of Hungarian and English traditions and the Hungarian national anthem was played as Eniko’s mother, Monika, was escorted into the church by Jonathan’s parents Julia and Frank. One of the highlights was a moving performance of ‘Ave Maria’ by local choir Friday Voices.
The reception took place in a marquee in the stunning surroundings of Osmaston Park near Ashbourne. Guests enjoyed glasses of Palinka – a Hungarian fruit brandy – and of course, Needwood ice cream! As part of the traditional Hungarian wedding breakfast, prepared by Fiona Herbert Catering of Newark, the bride and groom broke and ate bread with salt to symbolise a life without hunger or thirst.
The wedding cake was created by Eniko’s mother, Monika, who is a professional cake-maker in Budapest. In the style of a torte, the pale pink, finely layered cake incorporated chocolate and orange layers with edible gold details. The focal point was a giant frog and keyhole, inspired by the fairytale of the frog who turned into a prince when kissed. The keyhole symbolised the unlocking of a heart.
