Purple heather and Harry Potter are just some of the things on offer in this pretty part of the North York Moors.

Goathland lies nine miles to the south the seaside resort of Whitby and is part of the North York Moors national park.

Goathland established itself as spa town in the 19th century and the Victorians flocked there to witness the local waterfalls of Mallyan Spout and Beck Hole.

While railways have been a large part of Goathland’s cultural heritage due to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, the quaint station has placed Goathland into the realms of popular culture dur to its appeal to film-makers.

The station appeared in the Heartbeat and All Creatures Great and Small, but perhaps more significantly its appearance as Hogsmeade, a Hogwarts Express stop in the Harry Potter film series, has turned it into a pilgrimage site for fans.

The surrounding moor with its sprawling expanses of purple heather and roaming sheep make it a popular destination for walkers and photographers looking to enjoy the beauty of the Yorkshire countryside.
