After having her sons, fashion graduate Gemma Buller decided to launch her own business creating unique, Scandinavian-inspired prints mixing the latest technology with traditional skills. Under her design brand Mulk – named after her two-year-old son Rudy’s mispronunciation of milk – she creates personalised prints for children’s bedrooms or adult space, stylish stationery, handbags and accessories.
“I’m really inspired by Scandinavian design and love simple, functional things created from a basic colour palette,” says Gemma, from Norwich, whose products are available at Coccolino on Timberhill and Cocco Tree in Poringland. “I don’t like fuss and I love clean, to the point prints. I wanted to create unique things for my sons and that inspired me to start the business.”
Gemma graduated in fashion design from Westminster University in London in 2008. She combines computer design work with intricate hand-stitching to create a variety of individual prints, using different materials including recycled buttons and fabrics.
“I adore fabric and texture so I do try to incorporate textiles into my print work. I also love printing my artwork on to fabric, creating bags and purses and using simple hand-stitched lines to create artwork.”
