On Monday 11 April, entries for the 2012 Bath Half Marathon will go live on the brand new website, www.bathhalf.co.uk.Due to high demand, entries are opening much earlier than usual for 2012, and event organisers are urging local people to get their entries in early for this popular event.Race Director Andrew Taylor, from Running High, said,

“We are really excited about the 2012 event, which marks a very special year for sport in the UK, and promises to be the Bath Half’s biggest year ever. This year’s event, back in March, was such a huge success, with almost 12,000 runners pounding the streets of Bath and tens of thousands of spectators lining the course in support. As a popular tourist city, Bath always attracts runners from all over the UK and many from abroad, and we expect entries to sell out in the next few months, so to ensure you get a place I would advise local runners to get their entry in soon.”

The Bath Half, which is one of the biggest and best loved half marathons in the UK, never fails to sell all of its 15,000 entries months before the event, which will take place in March next year. To mark the ever evolving event for 2012, the organisers have undergone a complete rebrand, which contains eye-catching and humorous illustrations that show the mix of people participating, from elite athletes to family runners. The new image has been designed by locally based, Northbank, with the illustrations featured in the campaign being created by award winning illustrator, Simon Spilsbury. It is being rolled out across e-marketing, social media, a new website, advertising, merchandising and all collateral.Mel Taylor, Marketing Director at Running High said:

“As the Bath Half continues to develop as one of the UK’s leading running events, we felt that this was the time to look at a new identity to reflect what we’re about as a brand, as well as to create a point of differentiation from other events.“Our marketing challenge was to link the ongoing evolution of the event with the great sense of affection associated with an event celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. Northbank responded to our brief with a new identity and website which reflects the DNA of the event – fun, vibrant and inspiring but ultimately of course, all about our runners”.

The Bath Half provides a great warm up for those runners taking part in the Virgin London Marathon. The half marathon will encompass a Corporate Team Challenge, which attracted over 100 teams last year, and there will be the annual Family Fun Run too, which saw a record number of entrants in 2011 and is expected to grow further in 2012.

The event is one of the largest charity fundraisers in the South West, raising a predicted total of around 1.5million pounds this year for over 50 different local and national charities. The official charities for the 2012 race have yet to be announced and details of how to apply will be made available soon. For more information and to see our brand new website which will be launched on Monday 14 March, please visit www.bathhalf.co.uk or call 01225 422 255. General entries for the Bath Half will open on Monday 11 April 2011.
