These are the stunning pictures which have taken the prizes in our search for the best amateur photographers in Cheshire. Since we launched this year’s competition, which was once again sponsored by Wilkinsons Cameras, we have been inundated with hundreds of brilliant images taken all over the county.

Our panel of judges had a tough task to select a shortlist of 12 pictures which feature in the 2015 Cheshire Life calendar, and an even harder job to choose three winners.

After much careful consideration the judging panel – led by David Parkinson from Wilkinsons, Cheshire Life picture editor John Cocks and editor Louise Taylor – picked this shot of the windmill at Bidston Hill to win first prize. It was taken by Val Alderson of Prenton and she will win receive a Canon EOS 100D and EF-S 18-55 IS STM worth £479.99.

John Cocks said: ‘The standard of the pictures uploaded to our website has once again been incredibly high and it was not an easy job at all to select the shortlist, let alone the top three.

‘A number of entries featured reflections but not all of them managed to capture the object quite as well Val did both in its true image and its reflected image. The windmill here has been a popular feature for photographers for many years and Val has framed her picture well and made good use of the clouds to help do that. ’

Mike Harrison of Timperley took the second prize of a Canon Powershot S120 worth £399.99 for his picture of a cold winter evening at Ashley. And the judges chose this photo of Chester Cathedral taken by Kevin Lyth of Upton to win the third prize of a Canon Powershot SX 510 worth £219.99.
