More than 20,000 people flocked to the Holker Garden Festival with the numbers attending the sunny Saturday session breaking all previous records.

Awards were presented by the judges and Cavendish Family on the Friday with Sharp Paving, of Burneside, winning Large Gold and Best in Show for their garden named ‘The Artist’s Retreat’. The trophy for Best in show (Horticulutural Marquee), Large Gold Horticultural display and the Lucy Cavendish Award went to Abi & Tom’s Garden for a display which also won Best in Show and a Large Gold. Tom and Abi Attwood’s nursery at Halecat featured in Lancashire Life last year. Preston’s Brighter Blooms won a Large Gold

John Laking Gardens, of Heysham, won Best Newcomer and a Gold award for his Show Garden ‘Nice ‘n’ Easy’ which is his first at the Holker show.

Manager Jillian Rouse said: ‘I think we were breaking records in the Garden Theatre too. When James Wong took to the stage, people were standing at the sides, back and even at the entrance just to see the gardening guru.’
