Carole Watchorn was given the award at the prestigious ceremony at the Red Hall Hotel, in recognition for the work she has done as chair of Friends Reminisce, a group run by volunteers that provides reminiscence and art therapy sessions to older people and those in early stages of dementia.

Among many other roles, she is also chair of St James the Less luncheon club which provides the elderly in the community with something to look forward to and participate in. The event also raised £4,890 for the hospice, and guests enjoyed fashion from Boot-ique of Ramsbottom and a humorous talk by former midwife and author Sheena Byrom OBE.

Sam Morris, who is the fundraising manager said: ‘This year we had a record number of 24 nominations which highlights just how much is contributed by women throughout our community. It does, however, make it much harder to choose the finalists.’
