Armitstead Barnett says hello to Cumbria

Sprawling, six-bedroom farmhouses overlooking sought-after South Lancashire villages. Small cottages nestled in North Lancashire’s meadows and woods. And now, rural and land property of all sizes in the rolling hills of Cumbria.

Estate agents at Armitstead Barnett span the entire north west of the UK, buying and selling rural properties and land for a huge range of clients. After conquering Lancashire with their offices in Garstang and Burscough, Armitstead Barnett are expanding north and opening a new office in Cumbria.

The agency is a proud local business with roots stretching deep into the Northwest’s thriving past. In 1890 Thomas Armitstead purchased a small business and ran it with the help of his two sons from a street in Lancaster.

In the 1970s, when the business was being helmed by Thomas J Armitstead, it moved into livestock auctioneering, experiencing the agricultural market for the first time with the auctions of pigs and cattle.

When a Mr P Barnett purchased the family business to form Armitstead Barnett in the late 1990s, the second office opened and expansion continued throughout the north and west of the country. It is with eyes on the agricultural and land property markets in Cumbria that the firm now celebrates the opening of its third office.

The expansion makes sense. With a firm foothold in the rest of the area, it’s only natural for the business to grow towards Cumbria. With Cumbria’s expanses of natural beauty, picturesque villages and rich rural heritage, Armitstead Barnett is already well-equipped to represent properties there.

Bringing rural specialisation to Cumbria

As a specialist rural business, Armitstead Barnett provides estate agency, valuation, agricultural tenancy advice and rural chartered surveyor services across the north of the UK. When it comes to buying, valuing and selling rural and village residential property and land, the firm’s century-old experience elevates them above traditional estate agencies.

The rural community has always been at the heart of Armitstead Barnett culture. It’s a family business born from the love of rolling hills and village cottages – not towering London skyscrapers. The firm has a specialist rural law department and also works in acquiring, disposing of and creating income from rural property and assets, including dealing with the government and topics such as land access.

A member of both the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers, the firm is also selected as a National Farmers Union surveyor panel approved firm after being recognised for providing up-to-date rural advice.

The future is looking bright for Armitstead Barnett. Holding on to its rural Lancaster roots, the opening of a new office in Cumbria is the next step in their journey to improve the lives of rural property owners all over the Northwest. Where they go from here remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure – it’ll be a place of outstanding natural beauty.
