Can I have a solid fuel stove fitted where I live?

Some towns and cities of the UK are designated SMOKE CONTROL areas and prohibit the burning of smoke producing fuels such as wood. In such circumstances, stoves can still be used if they burn smokeless fuels or gas. However, if you live in a smoke controlled area and still want the freedom to burn wood you can use a DEFRA approved CLEAN BURN stove. These stoves are specially designed to burn wood whilst producing lower smoke emissions.

Choosing your stove

There are many factors that will determine which is the ideal stove for you.

Fuel type – Wood burning stoves restrict you to only burning wood. Multi-fuel stoves can burn wood, coal, coke, peat, anthracite and smokeless fuels.

How much heat do you want from the appliance?

How efficient is the stove?

Is it DEFRA approved CLEAN BURN? For people who live in SMOKE CONTROL areas.

Will the stove fit in to the fire opening and still maintain the necessary clearances for regulations?

Is the stove CE marked and HETAS accredited? This means they have been independently tested to exacting European standards for both heating efficiency and emissions. They have also been accredited by HETAS, the UK’s official body recognised by the government to approve solid fuel domestic heating appliances.

Can anyone install your new fireplace and fire?

Under no circumstances should you try to fit, fix or move gas appliances such as your gas fire, boiler or cooker yourself. Only Gas Safe registered engineers have the right skills to do this safely. DIY with gas and could put your family’s life at risk.

Whilst there are no qualifications needed to install a fireplace, it is still very important that it is installed by a team of competent and experienced fitters, equipped with the right tools and materials to fit a fireplace properly and safely in your home. Stone and marble fireplaces are inevitably very heavy and need to be fitted securely to the wall. There have been several instances where heavy stone fireplace surrounds have fallen causing damage and injury. These incidents have happened because the fireplaces were not securely, mechanically fixed in place. In two, separate accidents this type of incident resulted in the death of two young children.

Highly trained craftsmen from our in house fitting service, all of which are Gas Safe registered and also Hetas approved for solid fuel. All equipped with the skills to achieve a very high standard of fitting in your home.

What warranties does your new gas fire come with?

Legally all products sold in the UK are supplied with a minimum of 12 months warranty. Most British manufacturers however supply warranties on their products for up to 10 years for no extra charge covering your fire against manufacturing and material defects, including parts and labour. In-line with gas industry practice, we recommend that all gas appliances should be serviced by a Gas Safe registered engineer to ensure continued safe operation and optimum performance throughout the lifetime of the product.

Can my fireplace be made to a special size?

Unlike other showrooms which buy in products, at Leyland Fireplace Centre we have a hand in the manufacturing too. This enables us to be different than our competitors. We design and create unique fireplaces out of some of the best quality materials from around the world, ensuring you get the best finished look for your home. All fireplaces can be made to any size to suit any situation. Unique fireplaces just for you!

Are there different control options for gas fires?

Gas fires are available with a choice of numerous different control options starting with a basic manual control where you operate the fire from the bottom. If you want an easy to use gas fire and don’t want to be bending down to adjust the heat then you might want to consider a top or slide control gas fire. These fires have the controls at the top of the fire or a slide control on the side. You’re then able to turn the fire on and off from this position as well as adjust the flames up and down. Then you also have the option of a remote control fire. These fires can be operated from the comfort of your chair. Ask us in our showroom to demonstrate the different control options for you.

What is the waiting time for my new fireplace from order to fitting?

Once you have chosen your fire and fireplace, a design is produced followed by a home survey and within two to three weeks your room could be completely transformed.
