The Royal Cornwall Show attracts more than 200,000 people every year – find out why you shouldn’t miss the Duchy’s biggest event of the year
To enjoy the Royal Cornwall Show properly it can take a little planning as there's so much to see and do. To see everything can take more than a day to fit it all in.
The cattle lines
For many, the attraction is the animals linked to the show's roots that are firmly set in agriculture.
The cattle lines, for example, are a joy to visit. You'll find numerous breeds, each with its own characteristics which are easy to identify when you see them in close proximity. You'll find enormous bulls and cute, young calves. A farmer will never be far away and happy to chat to visitors, if they are interested, about their well-cared for, prize animals.
Visit the sheep, pigs, goats, rare breeds and horse sections or the numerous marquees that are home to the smaller animals including cage birds, rabbits, pigeons and poultry, you will find owners with the same passion and willingness to tell you more.
The dog show
It's a big year for the dog show as it boasts for the first time hugely coveted qualifiers for Crufts. A total of 56 of the class winners at the Royal Cornwall will win the right to compete at The Kennel Club's centrepiece event next year. The competition is always intense but this will turn it up another notch.
The entertainment is a big draw and this year there will be plenty to keep visitors busy and the main ring is where you'll find a line-up of major acts and displays.
Atkinson Actions Horses
Atkinson Actions Horses will put on a masterful display of horsemanship to wow the main ring audience. The talented horses and stunt riders and stars of TV hits like Poldark and Victoria will show off their impressive skills. You can read more about them by clicking here.
Motorcross stunts from Jason Smyth
Ex-World Motocross Championship competitor Jason Smyth brings a noisier act to the programme. He's set to amaze the main ring crowds as he flies over 30 feet in the air and 75 feet from ramp to ramp whilst performing outrageous aerial tricks on his motorbike. Jason will use not only a two-wheeled version but will jump on his quad bike to provide a spectacular freestyle show. If he wasn't busy enough doing that, Jason will provide entertaining commentary through a microphone in his helmet as he performs his fast-paced tricks.
The RAF Falcons parachute team
The RAF Falcons parachute team will gracefully descend into the main ring on each day and their counterparts, the RAF Police Dog demonstration team will show off their capabilities on the Thursday and Friday too.
Family entertainment
Out and about on the showground avenues you will find Titan the Robot and Titch the 14-ft animatronic dinosaur; they'll be joined by circus performers and street entertainers. Also popping up when you least expect it will be an array of roaming musical acts as the entertainment comes to you.
Live music
The two live music stages and Cornwall Festival of Dance provide a mix of local acts and provide a spot to put your feet up, relax and perhaps indulge in some of the catering and rehydration options that can be found around the site.
Retail therapy
Who can forget the shopping - with more than 1,000 trade stands bringing many a show-goer to Wadebridge with retail therapy on their mind. If you want to buy a new cooker or a shepherd's hut, pair of wellies or a new outfit then this is the place to be. You'll also find the latest cars, perfect for those looking for a new set of wheels.
Plenty of yummy food
The Cornwall Food and Farming section is where you'll find around 60 of the very finest local food and drink producers. If it's not grown, reared, caught or made in Cornwall it's not allowed in the marquees. You can try and buy tasty treats to take home (if they last that long).
