Heritage Open Days are set to return in September 2023, and there will be a number of places to visit for it across Cornwall.

Running between Friday, September 8 and Sunday, September 17 the programme is returning for its 29th year.

Run in conjunction with the National Trust and the People’s Postcode Lottery it helps highlight the history and culture of many significant locations.

Many National Trust sites will be open for free on selected days during the event, and here are some you can visit in Cornwall.

Lady Daphne, Charlestown Harbour

Address: Charlestown Harbour, Charlestown Road, St. Austell, Cornwall, PL25 3NJ

You can explore the historic sailing vessel of Lady Daphne in Charlestown Harbour and discover its history.

Guided tours, children's activities and bar are all available onboard.

It will be running from 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday, September 16 and Sunday, September 18 and no booking is required.

Tremar Pottery and Liskeard Glass Exhibition

Address: Liskeard & District Museum, Foresters Hall, 1 Pike Street, Liskeard, Cornwall, PL14 3JE

Heritage Open Days said: "Visit the Liskeard & District Museum and see an exhibition celebrating local creatives with an exciting range of the ever-popular Tremar Pottery and Liskeard Glass on display.

"There’s also a chance to feel inspired by this local work and get creative with arts and crafts and children’s model making to enjoy."

Opening times for the programme are 10 am to 4 pm on September 8,11,12,13,14 and 15 and 10 am to 1 pm on September 9 and 16. No booking is required.

Veryan Bunker Tours

Heritage Open Days said: "Explore this unique nuclear bunker through a guided tour with local expert Lawrence Holmes and discover cold war secrets and stories of what happened in a nuclear bunker.

"The decoy command bunker is the only known preserved one of its type in the UK!"

Tours are running between 11 am - 12.30 pm and 1.30 pm - 3 pm on Saturday, September 16.

Trengwainton Garden

Heritage Open Days said: "Enjoy free entry to these beautiful gardens with winding wooded paths, award-winning plants, walled gardens and sea views.

"Discover Cornwall’s role in global plant collecting with a map of Cornish gardens with performance-based interpretation of global plant collecting histories on selected dates."

Opening times are from 10 am to 5 pm on September 10-14 and 17 and no booking is required.

Architectural Tour of Cotehele

Join volunteer Steve Docksey for an in-depth focus on the external architectural development of Cotehele over time.

The tour lasts up to two hours, at the end you'll be invited to climb the 55 steps up the North West Tower to see Cotehele for a different angle.

Tours will be running at 10.30 am and 2 pm on Tuesday, September 12 and Thursday, September 14.

Falmouth Cemetery Tour

Heritage Open Days said: "Join this tour of Falmouth Cemetery and discover the fascinating stories of those buries there, including many war stories.

"From First World War unidentified firemen to Falmouth’s past as a naval base and Royal Navy Air Station in World War II there’s much to be discovered this September."

The tour will run at 10.30 am on Saturday, September 16 and can be booked here.

Godolphin House & Gardens

Heritage Open Days said: "Enjoy free entry into the gardens of Godolphin with an exciting series of free walks, talks and workshops running throughout Heritage Open Days in partnership with Godolphin Cross Community Association.

"Explore the rich history of this ancient mining site, discover Godolphin Woods or learn about medieval gardens."

Trerice

Heritage Open Days said: "For one day only enjoy free entry to Trerice and discover 450 years of history in the Elizabethan manor and the tranquil knot gardens.

"There will be opportunities to try a game of Cornish kayles and soak up the atmosphere with live music from a local folk band playing a selection of Cornish and Welsh celtic music."

It will be open from 10.30 am to 4.30 pm with performances taking place at 2 pm and 3 pm.
