More than £10,000 was raised for Bury Hospice at a special ball held in memory of Sarah Taylor.

The 28-year-old died from cervical cancer at the hospice in 2016 and, to mark what would have been her 30th birthday, her mum Lorraine Taylor organised Sarah’s Sunflower Ball at the AJ Bell Stadium, Salford. Lorraine, who was named Bury Woman of the Year for her fundraising efforts, has now raised nearly £40,000 for the hospice.

She said: ‘It was a fabulous but very emotional evening. Everyone at AJ Bell has been so kind, and they donated the suite to us free of charge. I will continue to fundraise for the hospice. I used to think they were for older people but without them I don’t know what we would have done. They allowed Sarah to pass with dignity in a beautiful room.’
