Staff and pupils at Torrisholme Community Primary School, Morecambe, have raised over £12,000 for three cancer charities after a summer of events.

The finale to their fundraising programme was the Black and White Ball, held at the Lothersdale Hotel, Morecambe. More than 100 guests enjoyed a champagne reception, three course dinner and an evening of entertainment to help raise money for St John’s Hospice Lancaster, Cancer Research UK and Breast Cancer Care.

Deputy headteacher Sarah Price, said: ‘The campaign was a result of cancer affecting a number of families within the school community. As a school, we try our best to offer support but we had a feeling of helplessness and we wanted to do something.’ w
