Editors and other representatives from the leading community magazines produced in Essex in 2014, gathered at the brand new GreyFriars Hotel in Colchester in June for the presentation of this year’s Essex Life Community Magazine awards.
The popular annual competition for magazines run by volunteers is organised by RCCE with the backing of Essex Life, the Diocese of Chelmsford and Newport News, the trailblazing community magazine from Newport, near Saffron Walden.
This year’s awards featured a number of new prize winners with The Thaxted Bulletin, fighting off strong competition from Ambo (the magazine of Hempstead, Radwinter and The Sampfords) and Galleywood Grapevine, to win the Newport News prize as the top community magazine in Essex.
Thaxted Bulletin is produced by the Thaxted Society. It is a most attractive magazine which combines community news and information with features on Thaxted’s rich heritage. This was its first win in the competition.
