A Place in the Pines, Thimbleby

The lowdown: The founder, Matt, felt that nothing quite beats waking up in the forest to the smell of campfire coffee and bacon, with a day of trudging unknown lands ahead. The four canvas lodges at A Place in the Pines each have a different theme: rustic, New England, country cottage and Scandi. All of them are unique and stunning, and the stoves inside will cook a joint of meat as well as keeping the family warm.

The lowdown: Escape away to The Pump House for a stay with an undertone of history. Bedroam, York

The lowdown: You may recognize this quirky concept from George Clarke's Amazing Spaces. Bedroam is a bus-based venue with 18 sleep pods that have luxury mattresses, blackout screens, and charging points. The private woodland setting gives everyone space to relax in the great outdoors too and the facilities on board include showers, audio system, and coffee machine. The lowdown: Well, it doesn't get much more magical then stepping into what feels like the real-life set of one of your favourite fantasy films.
