HIGHLY COMMENDED

Badger Inn, Church Minshull

Dating from c1770 and sporting fine period oak beams, the Badger Inn epitomises an indelible piece of English heritage: the village pub. There’s the warmest of welcomes, a wide range of well-kept beers and carefully-chosen wines and the food, served in delightful surroundings is hale, hearty and wonderfully appetising British fare. Five delightfully furnished en suite bedrooms point towards the Badger’s history as a coaching inn.

Leather’s Smithy, Langley

While Napoleon was busy retreating from Moscow in 1812, one William Leather obtained a licence to sell ale and porter at his stone-built smithy on the edge of the scenic Macclesfield Forest reservoir. More than 200 years later Leather’s Smithy is renowned as one of the best and most popular country inns in east Cheshire with snug ambience, real fires in winter and a menu ranging from simple sandwiches to lobster thermidor.
