Success for the School Swimmers!!!

Following a huge campaign to raise money to replace the swimming pool liner at Ropley Primary School, The Swimming Pool Committee are delighted to announce that work has commenced on the refurbishment of the beloved pool at Ropley Primary School.

Committee members worked hard on an application form for a grant which was submitted at the end of last year, and following its examination by RDPE (Rural Development Programme – Europe) & SEEDA (South East England Development Agency), Ropley School Pool was considered as a worthy cause. The fund was awarded up 14860.00, based on committed works of almost 30,000.

Following this success the committee have been able to add the grant to the astounding sum of over 13,000 that the local families, businesses and residents have helped raise over a very short period of time, and organise the replacement of the liner and general surrounds with new seating, pipe work and the all important heat exchange unit.

Thanks to the support of the community, parents and children, the school will again be able to offer free swimming lessons to all Ropley School pupils and to children of schools in our area who are not so fortunate to have access to swimming facilities.

However, following removal of the liner, unexpected damage was found to the pool walls and it is expected that there will now be a shortfall in funding. Fund raising will therefore continue in earnest to cover this shortfall and enable the installation of a toilet block. This is essential to meet the terms stated in the grant, so that the pool can be used by the wider community.

Recent events include a ‘Bollywood’ Ladies’ Night, which was held at Shapla in Alresford and a mother’s Day Fayre which was held in the school hall in early March.
