Why not enjoy a delightful spring time stroll around some beautiful countryside surrounding Little Walden, tucked away in the northwest corner of the county?

From the pub, turn right along the main road. Soon after, opposite the red brick farm building, turn left onto a bridleway along a wide track past a lake. At the path junction, proceed straight ahead, going uphill along a wide track – there are good views around as you ascend.

Ignore the footpath on the left but turn left at the next junction, as you start to descend, keeping the hedge to your left, along a wide green path. When you reach the junction with the byway, turn right. Continue between hedges, soon going up a shady path. Just as you reach Butlers Farm, turn left before the first building along a footpath.

Go uphill between crop fields – at the crown of the slope are wonderful distant views of the countryside. Continue on, going down to a way-marker where you bear right past the greenhouses and round the green gate to the lane. Turn left along the lane. Go straight on along the lane for some distance. As the lane ends, go straight ahead past the old farmhouse.

Go up along the field edge and then bear right at the way-marker, going across the crop field and then bear left to a wooden planked bridge. Turn left on the other side of the bridge and proceed uphill along the field boundary with the ditch on the left. In the corner, follow the way-marker through the hedge and across the middle of a large crop field.

At the end of the field, go straight ahead up a stony track, which bends left. Proceed straight on along the track, up past a stone trig point. Continue for some distance until you reach the farm. Bear left passing close to the farm house and continue to the main road.

Turn left. Watch out for fast moving traffic and use the verge if possible. Turn right by the cottage (Ravenstock) up the lane (the public footpath is not signed). At the top, just before the sign for the private road by the black barn, turn left past Highfield Lodge onto a wide grass path. There are good views ahead.

Continue between fields and cross into the next field going straight on, soon descending to a gap in the hedge at the bottom. You emerge into a meadow. Here the path soon veers left alongside the brook and then crosses the brook to the lane. Turn left along the lane, taking you back to The Crown pub.
