Taylors Land Rover in Great Dunmow has been a temporary home to some of the world's most expensive cars. Adrian Foster discovers more

Flushed with the accolade of being awarded the prestigious Land Rover franchise as an authorised repairer, Taylors Land Rover is situated on the Chelmsford Road Industrial Estate in Great Dunmow.

The family-owned business was originally set up by Jayne and Jeremy Taylor in 1987 in a converted farm building in Takeley. Since those early days the company has gone from strength to strength as an independent, offering owners of quality marques including Land Rover, Audi and Renault the levels of service that they would normally expect from a franchised dealer, but at highly competitive prices.Manufacturer-approved training is something that Jeremy insists on. 'Like the car manufacturers we represent, we place a lot of importance on proper training for our technicians and I would like to see the day come when a person may not work on a vehicle unless he or she has proper, industry-recognised qualifications,' explains Jeremy. 'Land Rover customers are very loyal to the brand, very enthusiastic and exceptionally nice people to deal with. They respond well to a good level of service and we aim to keep our customers for life. We service cars from brand new back to some of the oldest Land Rovers, though the major part of our business is manufacturers' warranty repairs, servicing and maintaining cars up to seven years old.'

Silver GhostAs well as Land Rovers, Taylors services and repairs other quality marques including BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Bentley and Roll-Royce. 'Actually, we get some very rare and valuable cars in our workshops,' adds Jeremy. 'For instance, we MoT all the vintage Rolls-Royces and Bentleys for P&A Wood in Dunmow, some of which are worth millions of pounds. We've worked on historic Blower Bentleys and we've even had the original Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost (AX 201) in our workshops for an MoT.'Within the next few months Taylors will be giving the business a complete corporate face lift which will include refurbishing all the buildings, taking on used Land Rover sales and they may even take on the servicing franchise for another British luxury car marque in the near future.
