Snugburys
This legendary parlour in Nantwich started making ice cream 30 years ago, but has since had a modern makeover by descendent sisters Hannah, Kitty and Cleo Sadler. The original barn in a cobbled courtyard remains the HQ of the action, but the sisters who run Snugburys have also unveiled a purpose-built dairy to keep up with the demand of their much-loved scoops, those perfected over the decades and their new and experimental flavours. There’s amaretto and maple and walnut, sloe gin and damson, and carrot cake. And their revelatory chocolate brownie isn’t just any old ode to the cocoa bean. The Ice Cream Farm
The thought of heading to a kids’ adventure park might fill you with dread. But the payoff at this over-the-top pleasure centre for little ones is the mountains of ice cream for hungry visitors. Made from the milk of local cows by Cheshire Farm, it comes in every classic flavour you can think of, plus a great choice of more off-piste scoops: think Cointreau and orange; mocha coffee bean; stem ginger; and liquorice and blackcurrant. Dressing it up is par for the course too, with lashings of saccharine toppings and different cones to hold it all together. Daresbury Dairy
Daresbury is defined by tradition and classics done properly. The Daresbury Dairy team have created a modest 12 flavours, but by god, expect mega taste and style. Everything is made in small batches from their herd of cows so tasters can ensure they are up to scratch before being liberated to locals. On the menu is mandarin sorbet and ice creams of lemon meringue, coconut and rum and raisin. Seven Sisters Farm Ice Cream
Self-proclaimed makers of posh ice cream, another Knutsford favourite Seven Sisters churn milk from their very own herd to make some of the creamiest scoops around. And with all that fresh milk at their fingertips, they have been known to whip up new and interesting flavours when the moment stirs them, though classic tastes are their forte, from honeycomb and salted caramel to cherry cheesecake and the more out-there, cake batter. Not one to rest on its laurels, the farm occasionally works with other local artisans. Our advice?
