The winners of the prestigious Fry Awards, which recognises the UK’s leading fish and chip operators, have been revealed – with three establishments from Cornwall making the cut.

The 50 Best Fish and Chip Takeaways and 10 Best Fish and Chip Restaurants 2025 celebrate the incredible achievements of fish and chip shops nationwide. These awards are based on judging from 2024.

This is the 13th year the awards have taken place, and judges were said to be “not disappointed” with the quality of entrants or the food served in the establishments across the UK.

Among those judged and recognised were three Cornish establishments, now named among the best in the UK. These are:

Best Fish and Chip Takeaway
• Greg and Lou’s in Redruth
• Kellaways Fish and Chips in Threemilestone

Best Fish and Chip Restaurant
• Harbour Lights in Falmouth

Greg and Lou’s, Redruth

Tripadvisor rating: 4.5 / Google rating: 4.7

Greg and Lou, the owners of the takeaway in Redruth have thanked their “lovely customers” for their continued support after being named one of the best fish and chip takeaways in the UK.

A post on their Facebook page reads: “I would just like to thank our wonderful team for consistently working so hard.

“This is the 4th year in a row we have been awarded a place in the Top 50 Fish & Chip takeaways in the UK. We achieved 98% overall. We were judged by two mystery shoppers in November.

“This is a brilliant achievement. Greg and I are so proud of everyone. Thank you to all our lovely customers for your continued support.”

On TripAdvisor, Greg and Lou’s have a 4.5 rating with more than 150 customer reviews. One satisfied customer said: “Dropped in for a takeaway on our way back to our campsite.

"The fish was delicious and the chips were amazing. Never tasted any quite like them before from a chippy, crunchy on the outside and fluffy potato in the middle. Possibly double fried or maybe tossed in seasoning/flour before frying.”

Another customer added: “This is the best fish and chip shop (with the most varied menu I have seen in any fish and chip shop). The most amazing chips are coated in what seems to be a very light batter.”

"Absolutely mouthwatering fish and chips. The batter was light, the cod was glistening white. Beautiful taste, fresh, light, no fat taste at all. Chips fresh, well cooked with mushy peas and bread and butter. Probably the best fish and chips I’ve ever tasted."

Another added: “Great location, good helpful staff, perfect haddock, good helpings with sizes to suit appetite. Great with small kids and oldies. What more do you want…and they gave us a takeaway box for one of the family who couldn’t join us.”
