From baby soft cashmere layers and landscape-inspired woollen throws, to colourful and characterful blankets and those perfect for picnics (and Outlander fans), Victoria Lane of Solway Blankets shares the pieces which make a home, feel like home, and are ideal from adventures away from home
Solway Blankets is a luxury British blanket and throw brand based on a working family farm in Annandale, and inspired by the “colours, textures and quiet beauty” of the surrounding Scottish landscape. Founder Victoria Lane says the business began in 2014 with “a simple desire to create beautiful, meaningful pieces that bring warmth and comfort to everyday living”.
Working closely with traditional British mills, Solway Blankets carefully curates timeless designs made to be lived with and treasured.
“From elegant throws for sofas and beds to thoughtful gifts and bespoke commissions, each piece reflects a commitment to British craftsmanship, sustainability and enduring style.”

WARM & TENDER
The pink and blue cashmere baby blankets sit at the very heart of why I started Solway Blankets. When my son was born, he was gifted a beautiful blanket that became part of everyday life.
When I wanted to recreate that feeling for a friend’s new baby, I was surprised by how hard it was to find something that felt truly special, soft enough for delicate skin and worthy of being kept for years.
Woven from a gorgeous blend of cashmere and merino wool, these blankets have a gentle, silky feel that’s perfect for little ones. In the nursery, they look beautiful folded in a cot or draped over a chair and, thanks to wool’s natural breathability and moisture-wicking qualities, they’re ideal for layering. I love keeping one over the arm of a rocking chair ready to keep both parent and baby cosy during those quieter night feeds.

WELCOME HOME
The Kirkennan Plaid Pure New Wool Throw feels like home to me in every sense. The colours are drawn straight from the landscape around us - mossy greens, soft purples, gentle pinks and warm earthy tones that echo the hills, fields and coast we’re lucky enough to live beside. It’s one of those pieces that instantly makes a room feel lived in and welcoming.
What I love most is how it’s been part of our everyday family life. It’s kept us cosy on sick days, been roped into countless blanket forts, thrown in the car for impromptu adventures and pulled over my knees on chilly evenings. That’s the beauty of a really good wool throw it doesn’t just look lovely; it becomes part of your story.
To recreate the look at home, layer rich, natural colours with simple furniture and let texture bring warmth and character to your space.

COLOUR & CHARACTER
The Circus Multicolour Lambswool Throw never fails to make me smile. It’s a real celebration of colour, with joyful shades that all dance together in a playful patchwork design. I love how it instantly lifts a room, even the simplest sofa feels more inviting the moment this is draped over it.
What makes it extra special is the clever weaving; some squares are smooth and plain, while others feature a subtle herringbone texture in contrasting colours, giving the whole piece a lovely sense of depth and movement. It feels creative, confident and full of personality.
When styling this I like to keep everything else simple and let this be the star. Drape it casually over the back of a neutral sofa or armchair and allow the colours and soft fringe to spill out. Add a coordinated ‘pop’ of colour with a vase or cushion. It’s an easy way to add warmth, joy and character to any space.

A PIECE OF SCOTLAND
The Highland Cow lambswool blanket feels like a little piece of Scotland you can wrap around your shoulders. Woven on the banks of the River Tay from pure lambswool, it features the much-loved ginger Highland cow in a beautiful jacquard design, a true symbol of our countryside and its quiet strength.
I love keeping this one close by, ready to pull out on slower evenings.
There’s something so comforting about wrapping up in it with a book, the television on in the background and a warm mug in hand. It turns everyday moments into something special. It is also the throw I gift most often.
To recreate the look at home, treat this as both artwork and comfort. Let it be seen, not tucked away. Whether on a sofa or bed, it adds warmth, character and a gentle nod to Scottish heritage in the most effortless way.

PICNIC PERFECT
The Royal Stewart Tartan Waterproof Picnic Blanket brings together everything I love about tradition with a touch of everyday practicality.
The Royal Stewart tartan is instantly recognisable and wonderfully timeless and I’ll admit, catching up on Outlander recently has rekindled my affection for all things Stewart clan. There’s something so romantic about rolling this up and heading out after a long walk, ready for a relaxed picnic wherever the mood takes you. Made from pure new wool with a waterproof backing, it’s designed to be used, not just admired.
To recreate the feel, embrace classic patterns that never date, pair them with simple outdoor moments and let a well-loved blanket turn everyday adventures into memories you’ll treasure.
