A pretty village that lies at the foot of Pendle Hill.
Barrowford lies just south of the iconic Pendle Hill and has become a popular starting point for walkers looking to ascend the famous Lancashire landmark. There is also the Lancashire Witches Walk from Barrowford to Lancaster that a takes in a section of the Roman road called Watling Street that ran from Manchester to Carlisle and was the road the Lancashire Witches were taken from Clitheroe to Lancaster.
There are plenty of things within the village to explore, Barrowford Park was established in the 1920s as a war memorial and has a lake and wetlands as well as a playground an eight hole putting green.
Pendle Water which runs through the village, has a small waterfall and has a fish pass allowing salmon and sea-trout to progress up the river to spawning grounds, while the Leeds-Liverpool canal is less than a mile away.
The Pendle Heritage Centre is next to the crossing of Pendle Water. It is formed by a group of Grade II listed buildings and is open every day except Christmas Day and Boxing Day. At its heart is a restored ancient farmhouse which shows how architecture has changed over the centuries. It is part museum, part exhibition centre and has a walled garden and tearooms.
