Cranleigh House, off Acle Road in Upton, was originally built as a rectory, but has since been a bed and breakfast, wedding venue and is now a much-loved family home.

When the current owners bought the property in 2013, it had ten bedrooms and ten bathrooms, but they say it had lost its former glory and they were determined to bring it back.

It took around a year and a half to fully renovate the property, which included re-designing the layout to create around 6,000 sq ft of living space.

Their aim was to create the perfect space for hosting friends and family and it has worked. Highlights include the spacious sitting and dining rooms, which can be separated or blended together to create one large space, and the converted cellar where they have hosted many cheese and wine parties.

The kitchen has been designed as much for day-to-day living as it has for entertaining, and towards the rear of the house there is a bathroom, utility space, snug and study, with eight bedrooms on the two floors above.

Most of the bedrooms enjoy views to the front or side, over semi-undulating countryside - lovely to look at, whatever the season. There’s a sweeping gravelled driveway out the front which provides plenty of off-road parking.

The one-acre gardens feature lawns to the front and side and include specimen trees, boundary hedging and a block weave terrace, which can also be accessed from the kitchen. There’s also a well and planning permission for a cart lodge or garage to the front.
