People will have the exclusive chance to explore 10 gardens as a special event returns for the first time since 2023.

It will take place in the village of Thursford, in north Norfolk, on Sunday, June 7.

The Thursford Open Gardens event will raise funds for St Andrew's Church and give visitors a glimpse of hidden horticultural gems, with all gardens located within easy walking distance for those used to a stroll.

Highlights include Thursford Old Hall, the remaining wing of the original hall demolished after the Great War, which features landscaped grounds, a moat fed by the River Stiffkey and a mid-19th century dovecote.

Cottage Farm offers a garden with raised vegetable beds, a tropical section and cut flowers.

Traditionalists can enjoy a cottage garden where rescue chickens now roam freely after months of captivity.

Entry is £10 per person, with under-12s admitted for free.

The ticket price includes admission to the Thursford Collection, which houses the world’s largest collection of steam engines and organs.

Visitors can also enjoy the village’s Grade II-listed church, known for its stained glass, including an Elizabethan window and a recently installed time-capsule window depicting life in the village.

The church will serve a ploughman’s lunch and several of the gardens will offer plant stalls and light refreshments.
