Target Catering Equipment is a family run business specialising in manufacturing a range of bespoke stainless equipment using Fabrication and Welding processes for the catering and hospitality industry. As the business has grown and developed, its aim and vision is to enhance its manufacturing process and encourage multi-skilled engineers through the introduction of the Apprenticeship scheme. To that end, they worked with Gloucestershire Engineering Training to create a tailor made program to reflect the workshop requirements and recruited an Apprentice of Christopher Evans in 2014.
Christopher was offered the opportunity of an apprenticeship following his successful interview, impressive practical trial and passing of aptitude tests at GET. He demonstrated enthusiasm and hands on experience. He enrolled on a challenging four year Advanced Apprenticeship program (Fabrication and Welding) as his first stage of his career within Target Catering Equipment.
In the first phase of the four year apprenticeship Christopher worked towards his “first year off-the-job phase” within the center at GET three days a week developing his basic practical engineering skills and learning topic specific skills such as; MIG, MMA, and TIG welding. During this period, the apprentice was also studying year one of the academic qualification (Technical Certificate) including things such as interpreting engineering Data and CAD drawings.
Christopher commenced his remaining Apprenticeship program in-company significantly contributing to Target Catering’s manufacturing processes bringing what he learned at GET to practical working in company. This has since resulted in the successful development of Fabrication and Welding skills which enables Chris to produce bespoke customers’ products to their demanding and high specification with tight tolerances from start to finish of the manufacturing process.
