“We’re delighted that Bowbridge Wharf being shortlisted as a finalist in these industry awards.”

Newland Homes' Bowbridge Wharf development has been shortlisted as a finalist for Best New Housing Development in the prestigious West of England Building Excellence Awards for 2019.

The 36 canalside homes in Stroud are tucked below Butterrow Hill alongside the historic Thames and Severn Canal. Bowbridge Wharf is a development of contemporary, high quality and well-appointed three and four bedroom homes in an attractive waterside setting. Building work commenced in 2013 and the site was completed last year.

The Building Excellence Awards are organised by the Local Authority Building Control (LABC) to showcase projects where design teams have applied innovative and creative solutions to complex technical or construction issues, leading to safe, sustainable and high quality development projects.

Jeremy Drew, Director at Newland Homes, commented: "We start afresh with each site as we don't have a 'one size fits all' approach to development. As a team we strive to incorporate contemporary ways of thinking, high levels of thermal and energy performance, and sustainable initiatives. We're delighted that this considered approach has resulted in Bowbridge Wharf being shortlisted as a finalist in these industry awards."

The townhouses at Bowbridge Wharf have a contemporary architectural design, with first floor lounges and full height windows to maximise the views out over the canal.

Jeremy continues: "We felt that capturing the views out over the canal was crucial to the design of the homes, so we wanted to create open plan first floor lounges in the townhouses. We had to do this in a way that meant the staircase to the floors above was protected in the event of fire. We engaged the services of a specialist fire engineer to install a sprinkler system along with fire resisting construction, helping to ensure safety without compromising on design."

All the properties at Bowbridge Wharf are now sold. Newland Homes has recently commenced a development of three, four and five bedroom homes in the nearby village of Whitminster, with the first homes expected to be released towards the end of 2019.
