You would be forgiven if you’ve bypassed Milnthorpe in the past, but you could well be missing out.
Milnthorpe lies on the border of north Lancashire and Westmorland, just eight miles north of Carnforth and if you’re travelling up the A6 towards the Lake District, you will pass Arnside to the west before you reach the South Lakeland village.
The River Bela runs just south of Milnthorpe, separating it from the Arnside and Silverdale Area of Natural Beauty before reaching the Kent estuary which flows onto Morecambe Bay.
To the west, you will find Farleton on the other side of the M6 motorway and Kirkby Lonsdale just beyond that on the edge of the recently expanded Yorkshire Dales.
One of the most popular places to visit nearby is the Grade I listed Dallam Tower which dates back to the 18th century, the extensive grounds are home to a deer park of almost 200 acres which also includes a grade II listed deer shelter and many public footpaths.
To the north-east of Milnthorpe you will find St Anthony’s Tower on the top of St Anthony’s Hill which affords you fine views of the village and surrounding countryside.
